Funny Raccoon Getting Caught at 1am With Shredded Cheese Meme

u/b_m_hart Oct 01 '21

Oh, hey... don't mind me, just munchin a lil here. I'll just, yeah, go over here, OK? This is pretty tasty.

u/DanOfRivia Oct 01 '21

The poor opossum was willing to share :(

u/noperopeisdope Oct 01 '21

I had a cat once that would invite an opossum in the cat door, stand guard while the opossum ate in the kitchen, then leave with the opossum when the opossum left. I saw them pal around together in the night. Guess he understood the value of sharing, unlike this cat…

u/PoemPhysical2164 Oct 02 '21

That's probably the cat's food lmao. How would you feel if I came into your house, took your dinner, and then was like, here you can have some.

u/malleoceruleo Oct 01 '21

"We can share, right? Right? No, okay, I'll just take one more for the road... oh, geez, fine, I'm going, I'm going."

My wife catching me with the shredded cheese at 4 am

u/Cokedoutyeti Oct 01 '21

This is why cheese never lasts at my place. I look like a feral crackhead shoveling cheddar into my face then zombie shuffling back to bed while riding that high.

u/bordemstirs Oct 01 '21

I was like that once.

A young cheese fiend. Then the universe made me lactose intolerant. Now we have so much cheese.

u/TheCopenhagenCowboy Oct 01 '21

My roommate thought it was crazy that I could go through a 1lb bag of sharp cheddar in 4 days, then he bought one and found out.

u/KT-Thulhu Oct 01 '21

I'm going to assume Sharp is what you call mature in the US? in which case, understandable, even better when it's extra mature cheddar.

u/TheCopenhagenCowboy Oct 01 '21

You know how we are in the US, we just have to be unique. I think out cheese scale goes mild, medium, sharp, extra sharp based on age. But, I would assume it's the same thing under a different name.

u/KT-Thulhu Oct 01 '21

As far as I know its the same, but also cause the extra mature has a strong kick that can leave your your mouth slightly numb after.

u/fydygijihyg Oct 01 '21

You guys know they sell cheese snacks right? As a cheese lover myself, I will never understand why y'all choose the form of cheese with the most surface area to get moldy from being touched and is covered in preservatives, like why?

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '21

Buddy nothing in my fridge last long enough to get mold

I keep cheese sticks in the fridge. I don't necessarily have time to be cutting and storing cheese cubes and the markup is too much to buy them pre-cubed

Plus I don't want to commit to a whole snack at midnight. I just want a few handfuls of cheese until I know when I'm done

u/fydygijihyg Oct 01 '21

Fair enough, except your last point… cheese snacks are designed for children, a couple handfuls of shredded cheese by volume is definitely more than a cheese snack, lol.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '21

Depends on the type of cheese and what you consider to be a handful

u/dibalh Oct 01 '21

Because I'm not chemophobic and know that the preservative is completely safe.

u/fydygijihyg Oct 01 '21

There are other downsides to excessive preservatives besides being unhealthy… Personally I don't like how it makes the cheese taste dusty.

But thank you for the new vocabulary word!

u/dibalh Oct 01 '21

That's perfectly fair. The dusty texture is usually cellulose to keep it from sticking. I agree cheese from the block is superior in taste and texture. But like OP, I'm not about to bust out the shredder for a quick snack at 1 am.

Here I am in the first half thinking the possum is eating some dudes pill collection.

u/bunkojones Oct 01 '21

He mistakenly thought it was all good. He was like a salesman that keeps making his pitch after a harsh rejection.

u/sleepybear5000 Oct 01 '21

That has to be one of the chillest opossums I've seen yet.

u/QuietingSilence Oct 01 '21

Most of the ones I've encountered are super-chill. I've only seen one aggressive possum. Come to think of it, it may have been with the cat in the vid. I'll see if I can find it.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '21
u/Mudmallow Oct 01 '21

the possums you find in North America are Opossums, however the O is silent so if you say it out loud it just sounds like 'Possum' this causes most people to call them just Possums in text or just use Possum and Opossum interchangeably, the one in this video is a Opossum.

however there is a species of animal called the Possum thats native to Australia so the distinction can be important typically with context its not a big deal

u/HankScorpioOfGlobex Oct 01 '21

Australian here, Our possums are chill but also giant dicks. They scream like death metal vocalists and squat in roof cavities. They also love to piss on things. All the things.

u/FOTheDentist Oct 01 '21

I don't know why, I don't know how, but I read 'roof cavities' as 'mouth cavities' and got really freaked out by your possums.

u/CouchTatoe Oct 01 '21

Why is every animal from australia i think os cute a giant dick? Lmao.. some aussie broke my dreams when he told me roos are a bunch of pricks

u/jangma Oct 01 '21

They are also super cute. No shade to NA opossums, but for all their charms they are not the most aesthetically pleasing lol.

u/RWordMurica Oct 01 '21

The O isn't silent, most people just use the alternate name of possum which excludes the o from the spelling and pronunciation

u/buddhakhan13 Oct 01 '21

It looks small as well. We had a full grown possum run off our cat as kids over food. The car only came back from time to time after that.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '21

Im happy that my neighborhood opossum is buddies with my cats

u/AlienChickk Oct 01 '21

There is an old table on my porch we never moved, my cat likes to chill there and take a nap. One time I went to take my trash out while it was dark. My cat was in his usual spot, but I saw movement underneath the table. It was an opossum just chillin. My cat didn't care at all.

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '21

Ha ha,are opossum goes in the garage with the cat and sleeps

u/TapiocaFish Oct 01 '21

I'm just happy those pellets on the ground weren't about to be an overdose of medication and a dead possum tonight

u/QuietingSilence Oct 01 '21

Decided to make a "Sail" version.

And just in case you're wondering - the ear tip means he's been TNR'd. So he's been sterilized and has food when he comes around. He's kinda skinny because he's been gone for a while, which I think is why he's a little more territorial too. Generally it's just raccoons that are problematic. Basically, any cat you see with that kind of ear-tip has been vetted and sterilized and usually has someone looking out for it too.

u/Ms-Skippi Oct 01 '21

Be careful! Ur cat sharing food with wild animals that may have diseases is not a good idea! The saliva from the sick animals will be ingested by ur cat when he/she eats the food and infect the pet u love!

u/jaggedjinx Oct 01 '21

Cats need to be indoors. End of story.

It could pick up diseases very easily from that encounter and others.

u/QuietingSilence Oct 01 '21

It's feral. The ear-tip shows it's been sterilized and has been vaccinated as well. This cat was born wild and never trusted or interacted with humans. In a sense, he's no diferent than any other wild animal - except he's neutered so that he doesn't cause a load of kittens every year.

u/jaggedjinx Oct 02 '21

Well, that's good, but he's no wild animal. He has no natural place in the ecosystem or food chain, and undoubtedly hunts and makes a nice little dent in local biodiversity. And also is a vector for disease as well.

Opossums are really cool animals to have around very beneficial. But man do they have to be so freaky looking with their mouths open. So ugly

u/stingpin832 Oct 01 '21

My favourite part was where the cat seemingly notices the camera and proceeds to transform back into housecat from full blown panther

u/iCryptToo Oct 01 '21

Cat who's perhaps your biggest predator: "GTFO OUT NOW!"

Possum: "I'ma keep eatin doe."

u/tsvfer Oct 01 '21

What an asshole. The oppossum seemed as if it would be fine with sharing.

u/JP817 Oct 01 '21

I have a camera outside facing an area I leave food for the stray cat that lives around here and I've seen so much funny stuff. I wouldn't feel too bad for the cute opossum, they do their share of questionable antics. They like to come up a bite other animals, including other opossums on the tail or general backside area to get to the food. One chased a raccoon away this week. 😄. Pretty sure the raccoon could have taken him, but he was surprised and took off. 😂

u/rhonabrettin Oct 01 '21

I remember feeding a group of stray kitten in my apartment complex when I was younger. Opened the blinds one day and the kittens and two possums were just chilling on my patio sharing the cat food. After about a month I'd look out and there's be 20 cats or so there so I had to stop u fortunately

u/willygetsome Oct 01 '21

This morning a juvenile possum joined the feeding frenzy of six cats and one ugly little 600 year old Chihuahua for breakfast. No one minded.

u/beaniejell Oct 01 '21

My cats don't even care about the possums anymore. As long as everyone minds their business they're okay, even if they're eating the cat food

u/Stonesand Oct 01 '21

A possum ate six of our ducks until we trapped it. They're serious predators: that cat is lucky.

u/Jamhawk4 Oct 01 '21

This makes me miss our Tommy Boy. He was a local Tomcat who we took in after he attacked by another male. He would share his food with our local possum. It was super annoying but kinda cute. He died after only a few months from what we assume was a heart attack. He was a good, big boi!

u/leemotay Oct 02 '21

An opossum is a pretty even fight for a cat. He must have had quite a bit already before the cat entered the scene. This could have been an epic battle.

u/K47Schroeder Oct 02 '21

My cats don't care if opossums eat their food. My cats will watch them and then beg for food when it's gone

u/EvenSheepherder6946 Oct 01 '21

Possum will mess a cat up.. That one was young though.. I had a scapper of a tom cat, thing was a fighting mess, took on the neighborhood rottie, and that dog ran from him ever since.. But when he went after a possum, I thought I was going to have to put him down..luckily be pulled though.. But he did it country boy style, and never messed with one again!

u/ColonelMonty Oct 01 '21

This dude came in on this opossum just minding his own business rating his meal, threw hands and stole it from him.

u/bluewhite185 Oct 01 '21

I find the cats facial expression pretty scary. The mimic is so visible with this kind of recording.

u/mugglemomjsw Oct 01 '21

I really want a pack of possums as my backyard pets… they're so cute! I love their little feet/hands.

u/Stag328 Oct 01 '21

Put that cat in a savannah and it rolling up on the possum is just like watching a lion creep up on prey it is amazing how a domesticated animal still has those natural insticts.

u/nukefudge Oct 01 '21

Oh, first I thought it was like, possum was eating rat poison pellets or whatever. But okay, kinda relieved when the cat showed up. I mean, kinda. You know. :)

u/DaWorzt Oct 01 '21

I guess the cat was saying get the hell out of here I said you had enough!!.. the possum was like damn son I offered to share!

u/R4ndomlyJ0n Oct 01 '21

I thought it was poison and it was about to drop dead. Happy ending, all things considered.

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '21
